Copyright? TFCD?

Pretty much, every TFCD shoot I've ever done has bitten me in the ass. About two years ago, I stopped shooting them. I took a six month break from shooting models and have recently gotten back into it. Now I'm faced with whiney crybabies who want the world from me.

My question to you is: do you shoot TFCD?

And what do you do about copyright issues?

From time to time, I shoot TFCD sessions.  I use the TFCD session to play with lighting and settings and angles and all that stuff, so I know what will fly with a paying client, and what won't. I think this weekend, with one of my favorite models Erika, it will be my last tfcd again. Too much a headache and I've noticed that once there's money involved, everything is that much more professional. When I do TFCD shoots, it appears as if there's no respect for my job and or business. "Models" feel as if they have the final say. When they pay, they're a lot more professional and have more invested into the shoot.

What about you?

As far as copyright goes, I own them, in both, my general portrait, as well as model world. When the client is paying, they have a bit more say, but overall, I still own it. I respect my business since it pays my bills, and I demand all who enter through it's doors to do the same.

Are you less stringent with your copyright?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it.

I don't really, so my wife goes back home to MN to celebrate it with the family.

I miss my kids. They're little boogers when here, but when their gone, damn.

My wife hates…

My wife hates when I pose with other models. She hates it because we don't have any of us together and more so, because I hate taking photos. There are currently about 10 photos of me in the world today of which I own or control 7 of them (Thanks to my Aunt in MN who won't let me "borrow" any of her copies).

Here are a few photos Mike S of MBS Images took at the workshop. Guess there's more images outside of my control than I want ;)

The model is Jacki and the other  hottie is the wife. Wow, guess the camera does add 145lbs to black men.

Only nudes?

Just so people don't start thinking nudes is all I shoot, I wanted to throw up a photo from a non nude client.

With the book coming out soon, nudes is all I've been concentrating on as far as models goes, but it's not ALL I do. Funny thing is? Before this blog, I hardly ever showed the nudes I took.

Slacker

I'm a slacker, let's get that out in the open.

I have two important emails  to send out, yet, I'm slacking lol.

While I'm slacking, I decided to edit a photo. With the book coming out in a few short weeks, I feel as if I'm running out of time and models. The panic is setting in. Here's a model who came in and we shot:

Ideas!

I'm not a smart guy, not at all. So when I get an idea, it hits me like a ton of bricks! I get headaches much like Jimmy Cagney in White Heat haha.

My Toss the box workshops were fun. They weren't really a learning place, well they were, but there wasn't much emphasis on learning as much as getting great shots. At this last workshop, I decided that I wanted my workshops to be different than everyone else, I want them to be a learning workshop! One of the biggest complaints about my last workshop was when Amanda went full nude, almost everyone RAN to shoot her, strobes, on camera flash, hot shoe flash all going off at once. I decided that's NOT how Colorado SuperShoots is going to work, not anymore, not ever, never ever again.

So me, in all my infinite wisdom, has decided to institute "hall monitors" yea, pretty slick huh? The way it will work is three of my most trusted photography friends, will have a group of 5 or less photographers. They will be stationed at a light setup with model. Those guys are going to make sure only one person is shooting and everyone else is watching. They're going to make sure the shooter gets 5-20 amazing shots, and no one else is shooting...not even in manual. "Why not in manual Jay? you're an ass!" Yes, yes I am an ass, but how will you like it when you're up front taking photos, and the model is looking at everyone else because she doesn't know where to look?  These trusted guys, will give you two or three warnings before you're asked to leave the building. That's right, you'll be escorted out of the workshop with no refund given. The workshops are a place of learning, not your own private place, respect others.

That may be a hard assed approach to it all, but it needs to be done. With Ali Sonoma coming in March, we have to have our ducks in a row!

I’m back!

CSS workshop is in the bag!

The workshop was great! Special thanks to my sponsors:

OMP (Free model memberships)

NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) (magazines and 2 dvd)

Englewood Camera (x2 20.00 gift certs)

And others.

The workshop went great! There were a few areas of concerns that I'm addressing now, I have a meeting with some trusted guys who will act as enforcers, more on that later.

Most of the model showed up, I was down 2 but one of the girls brought in a friend who shot.

One of my most fav models ever, came in, Nicole. Nicole is a true fashion model and just gorgeous. Although she has all this experience, she's the most down to earth 19 yo you'll ever meet! At the place I had the shoot,  they had a big cyc wall. I setup a "typical" fashion shot and let everyone shoot. Over the night, I think I got 10 pics total. That won't happen again lol.

Here's one of the photos I took of Nicole and Jarred. He's her bf and they make a cute couple imho.
