Slacking!
Hey guys,
Sorry, been slacking as of late.
I gave up my studio space. I didn't want to, but I found myself getting pretty complacent and unimaginative having it. Now, I'm forced to get creative and go back to shooting outdoors, in and around town. I will always use my home as an indoor space, but sometimes, I miss the freedom of having my own space.
Here in Colorado, it's sunny about 300 days, so most people want outdoor shots. I only shot models indoors and instead of paying a grand for commercial space, I can save that and put it towards a new camera!
I'm off to teach an outdoor workshop, so I'll most likely do up some photos from it.
Poached..
When I first moved out to Colorado, I decided to go to school for photography. I saw in the degree break down, there wasn't a prerequisite to take the "Advanced Lighting" class. So naturally, I took that class. With only two weeks left in the class, I got an administrative withdrawal approval as I was driving the instructor crazy. He was good at photography from the 1980's, but not so good when it came to photography of the year 2000's. The very first day of class, I was excited, wanted to learn. He takes the front of the class and says "When shooting portrait photography, everything needs to be shot at a 1:1 lighting ratio"
......
Wha?
Are you serious?
I was going to drop the class right away, wife told me to hang in there.
With a few weeks left in the class, I dropped it and for the 12 weeks I was in it, all I got out of it was; a cool way to tie my strobe cords up. 2. the word "Poaching" Poaching is the term he used when someone was shooting over the back of the original shooter. I use that term today.
Here's a poached shot from a 1 on 1 session I had over this past weekend.
It should be noted, I'm not against collegent learning when it comes to photography, just want people to know that school teaches you the basics, the real world teaches you how to make money.
The MUA got naked too!
My last workshop which was early May, I had an MUA come in and work the makeup. She did an OUTSTANDING job! She also used to model for me back in the day, so we made her get in for some shots too.
Here's her photos she wanted for her makeup page. Shot with one Photogenic AKC320B and the parabolic reflector bounced off the ceiling.
Holy crap!
Been forever since I've updated, sorry bout that. I've been sick with the Flu or something like that. Wife says Bronchitis and although she's a nurse, what does she know?
Here's one nude for ya, from Ashley. Shot using:
Photogenic 1250DR
Photogenic 24inch white beauty dish
Photogenic AKC320 on backdrop
Some Carlotta Champagne..
Hey guys,
Been a few days since I've updated, sorry. I've been in some horrible pain, so I've not had much interest in doing anything other than laying down sleeping. But I'm kinda back! and Got some Carlotta Champagne photos for ya!
These were taken one on one with her. I shot her the day before the workshop just so I could have something different. Carlotta is truly a great model and was a blast to work with! I've found, some Playboy models are great to work with, while others....nah, not so much. These all were taken with a Photogenic 1250DR strobe and a Photogenic 24inch white beauty dish.
Same Art nude workshop, different video
Hello friends,
I'm back! lol.
Here's another video from the same artistic nude workshop. I started ti fart around with some of the controls of the video editing program, so don't laugh too hard if they suck hard core lol.
Scene one: Went with 100% natural lighting with a 6ft silver reflector to fill in the camera short side and add some depth.
Scene two: Photogenic PL1250 shot through an octobox with a Photogenic AKC320 with grid to add accent rim lighting.

When you have a great model in front of you, it's difficult to to take bad photos imho. Here's some photos that I've been sitting on for six or seven months. The model asked to not be named, so I will honor her wishes and just show you the goods!
All shot with Photogenic PL600 through softbox. Photogenic AK320 with grids
Another video for you
This is a video from my 2009 Artistic Nude workshop. I had six photogs sign up, only two showed up!! Craaazy!! They had fun and so did the models, so I'm not complaining!

Beware: The perverts are everywhere!
Last year, I was out shooting some high school seniors and tons of people were driving by, honking, asking if they needed a "daddy" and one creeper kept circling the block going slow as slow can be. This happened when the DNC was in town, so there were a TON of cops around. They came up on the guy and made him go faster. Right after that happened, I looked over to the right and there was a creeper perv guy.
I know what you're thinking: "Jay, just because he was all sweaty and greasy looking, with a big round crepper belly and unkempt hair, he's most likely NOT a creeper, just a lonly old guy who enjoys watching photoshots of 17yo high school seniors"
???
O.K.
Damn Liberals.
What made it bad was Mr. Creeper (is that better?) rolled (ok, he ran, but as he did, his entire body jiggled) and got his pair of binoculars to watch!
So be being the non obtrusive guy that I am, I turned my lens around and fired off a few shots of Mr. Creeper. He quickly hid his binoculars, but you can sell he's holding something: either his man-bra, a guy, or his creeper goggles.
