Lighting video?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say whats up? Also, just wanted to let you know that after a year of planning, I'm FINALLY starting my lighting video! My video will be unique to the market and promises to have something for every one. I'm not sure of the price yet, but I will have an early bird special sign up.

This video will have full break downs of lighting setups as well as walking through the creative process of lighting. There will be TWO versions! One for model photography and one for general portrait! I will break down complex lighting patterns and make them do-able to the every day person. As it stands, the video will most likely be about eight hours lol, just kidding. If I record everything I want to, it most likely will be that long, but I'll edit it down.

Want to get on the mailing list to get first dibs at the sign up? contact me and let me know you want to be on the mailing list!

To hold you over, here's a few images taken over last week:

Sticking with the outdoor theme..

Today's post is staying true to the outdoor theme that I've been in all summer lol.

I used to hate shooting outdoors, but the more of a "name" I made, the more people wanted outdoor and other types of photos. I ended up HAVING to learn how to shoot.

Here's one of a client. To me, I think she looks like Brittany Spears. Last photo was her being goofy and doubting I could catch her in mid act. Second was her working the lens. A few photog friends have asked me where this location is and gets angry cause I won't tell them. I share shooting tips and tricks, lighting but NOT my locations lol. I spend about 10 hours per week mapping out locations, I'm not going to just GIVE them away lol.

Outdoors!

Over my photographic career, I've learned a few things. The most important is:

One who says they hate shooting indoors using strobes, most likely don't know how. Those who say they hate shooting outdoors and prefer the strobe, most likely can't shoot/manage the sun.

I was one of the "I hate shooting outdoors" kind of guys. One day, I decided I was going to have a full week of shooting outdoors. This just happened to be during the winter months. So that following spring, I shot outdoors. Today, I LOVE shooting outdoors.

These were all shot outdoors

“Models don’t pay photographers, it’s TFCD or they (the model) get paid”

Last week I was doing a shoot with one of my most favorite models. The quick shoot ended up turning into a 10hour shoot and as a result, we got GREAT images! At the end of the shoot, she hung out and we talked a bit, catching up. We started talking about photography in Colorado and the lack of jobs for everyone. I explained to her that I'm personally trying to change that by bringing out models such as Playboy Model Carlotta Champagne, Penthouse Model SaraLiz and 5 Photography masters, as well as doing my work here to move the interest up. She then said she was contacted by a local photographer who told her he wanted to shoot her for a local calendar. She asked him what was the pay, and he told her that in this instance, he wouldn’t charge her. She then said “Model’s don’t pay photographers, either the photographers pay or it’s a trade job.” I didn’t give her the riot act, but I wanted to ;)

Workshops/Shootouts..instructors Qualified..Unqualified?

Today’s blog entry is geared towards learning. Sorry, there won’t be any photo posts in this one, but it will address something that’s been on my mind for a while; shootouts and workshops.

Years ago when I got serious about model photography, I had decided that I didn’t want to be on the forefront, I didn’t want to teach workshops. I wanted to be the guy that put event’s on and had people out. A friend of mine named Nus, talked me into putting on a meet and greet. It was fun and we had about 6 photographers and about 12 models. Great turn out and we got some good images. Let’s fast forward six years and discuss today’s situation; the “do it for money” guys.

What is a model?

I bet you thought you were immune from my blog huh? ;) As it turns out, you will get just as much commentary as the photographers on my blog. Models are just as important to the photography process, so you need to be addressed summarily.

Wanting to be a model takes more than good looks and a nice body. It takes dedication and attention to detail. It takes commitment above and beyond the weekend “wannabe” claim. I want to touch on a few things that I see common in my shoots, and many other shots out there. These are tips and tricks that will help you be the best model you possibly can.

Fun video

Here's a video that starts with the girls getting their faces put on, and ends with my discussing some of the comments I get on my photos. The focus of the discussion is how people can hate a photo that I take, yet describe it in great detail!

Kansas II

Hey guys,

Getting back into the habit of posting every few days, I'm far from being caught up (Still have shots from Carlotta ChampagneWorkshop hah) but as long as I have something to share right? right haha.

All day Friday in Kansas, I spent teaching one on one and small group shoots. Saturday I spent teaching the workshop and ended up going home late Saturday. The workshop was smiple, get great shots using minimal equipment. For most of the shots at the workshop, we used one strobe. We shot on a pure white backdrop and let the backdrop fall gray.

Cassie II

Welp,

It's been a full 48 hours and I've not suffered any nerve damage or haven't died from the Swine Flu vaccine. Yay. Here's some more photos of Cassie from this summer. Cassie was supposed to go to a workshop, but bailed. She's not talked to me since and that's ok. She's a pretty young lady, I'd like to shoot her again maybe.

High School Seniors

As part of a PPA Super Monday class of which none of the ppa guys showed up because PPA didn't get their crap right and kept the old date and old theme, I had shooting high school seniors the way I shoot them. It was 8 hours of shooting and learning and by the end of the day, the guys were wiped out! The first four hours were of shooting, the last four was marketing and sales.

Here's some of the images I took. They just don't make seniors the way they were when I was growing up! I told one of the moms that and she said "I agree! I had to have kids before my boobs ere her size" LOL
